This is a magnificent and rare gilt bronze and enamel jewellery box made in France by Limoges circa 1890.
This is a stunning rectangular box with canted corners.
The lid has a dark green enamel border and the centre is adorned with a Limoges enamel portrait of a young lady wearing a rimmed hat.
The quality of the enamel is superb and it is signed by the artist (near the shoulder).
The oval enamel plaque is framed within a band of twisted rope design and a textured background with four stylised motifs in each corner.
The sides of the box are decorated with interwoven bands.
The inside of the box is lined with cream moire silk.
