Vintage Egyptian Revival Silver & Enamel Falcon Pendant Necklace
An Egyptian revival falcon necklace, made of silver and enamel. It features Horus as falcon similar to what was discovered in the tomb of the teenage King Tutankhamun in 1922. The falcon here represents the god Horus.
Look at the last image to see the treasure of King Tutankhamun’s tomb, who died around 1325 B.C. Egyptian Museum, Cairo. The piece now resides in the hands of The Cairo Museum. Horus was the god of kingship and the sky in Ancient Egypt and was thought to be the protector of the Egyptian people, especially the pharaohs. Every pharaoh was an incarnation of Horus.
In Ancient Egypt, it was often used as an amulet, to gain protection in the afterworld.
