Victorian (c.1890) 9ct Gold Back and Front Dog Locket
A quite unique Victorian locket, dating back to the Victorian era (c.1890). The locket pendant features a dog design to the front, a design we have never come across before. It is beautifully hand engraved on the back.
It is 9ct gold back and front, meaning it is all 9ct gold except for the hinge and inside frames. Often lockets were made with brass interiors to make the moving parts durable.
Inside are gallery spaces for happy memories or a small trinket. One side of the locket has the original hair. We kept the lock of hair to preserve its antique condition but it can be replaced with your own mementos if so desired.
During the Victorian era, young Victorian women would hide the picture of their loved ones, if the man offered up a lock of hair a marriage proposal usually would follow.
If you are a dog lover like us, you will fall in love with this unique dog locket!
